Yes, you read it right.
I have NEVER heard of this.
But, today I was on Facebook and saw where a friend said that it was.
Well, I was going to wait to make these cookies for our Father's Day lunch this weekend, but went ahead and baked them to celebrate this wonderful-ness.
So, yes, I really did Google it.
Here is the story behind this....
The peanut butter cookie was invented in the 1910′s, when George Washington Carver of Alabama’s Tuskegee Institute published a peanut cookbook in an effort to promote the crop. In the cookbook titled, “How to Grow the Peanut and 105 Ways of Preparing it for Human Consumption,” Carver included several cookies recipes that called for chopped peanuts. Peanut butter was added to the cookies 20 years later along with the fork marks that are associated with the cookie today.
Neat, huh?
We'll be celebrating every year!
So, here is the recipe my family loves.
Ingredients:
1 18 oz package refrigerated sugar cookie dough {at room temperature}
1/2 cup YOUR favorite peanut butter
1m package Hershey's Kisses ~ any flavor that you prefer
1/4 Powdered Sugar
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease your cookie sheet pan.
Knead cookie dough and peanut butter just until swirled.
Roll about a teaspoon of the dough into a ball.
Lay each "cookie ball" 2-3 inches apart.
Bake for 12 minutes or until cookies are light golden brown.
Cool slightly in pan.
When slightly cool make indention in center of each cookie with a chocolate kiss in the center.
Sprinkle your powdered sugar on top.
